Abstract

Using Lee-Low-Pines transformation and perturbative variational method, the effects of electron-phonon interaction on the exciton binding energy in a Ga 1− x Al x As quantum well can be solved analytically. Our results show that the phonon effect on binding energy of heavy-hole exciton is always larger than that of light-hole exciton and the correction of polaron effect on the exciton binding energy in a quantum well cannot be neglected.
