Abstract

The oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is taking place on the air electrode during charging period of rechargeable metal air battery. Removal of gas bubbles from the electrode is one of the key issues for better performance. This study investigated the effects of surface modified on the polarization curve of air electrode. Stainless steel mesh coated with needle-like deposit had better performance than those without coating. Electrode with needle-like surface had substantially lower OER over-potential. This electrode was combined with electrode for oxygen reduction reaction for acharge-discharge cycling test. A stable charging potential over 428 cycles was achieved.
