Abstract

Beta3-adrenoceptor stimulation enhances glucose uptake, lowering plasma glucose concentration. Glucose uptake is also enhanced by muscle contraction. Since electroacupuncture causes stimulated muscles to contract, we studied whether electroacupuncture influences the effect of exogenously administered beta 3 selective adrenoceptor agonist CL-316,243 (CL). Experiments were done in rats anesthetized with urethane and chloralose. Electroacupuncture was delivered for 10min at 10mA, 20Hz to the right tibialis anterior muscle.
