Abstract

This paper presents experiments in which the effect of drag-reducing polymers (DRP) on the frictional pressure drop of stratified flow and slug frequency of a slug flow of air and water flow in 2.54 cm diameter horizontal pipe is explained. The effect of DRP on the liquid holdup is also identified. The reduction in the frictional pressure drop by DRP in the stratified flow happened only at certain operational conditions. The reduction in the slug frequency also happened at certain operational condition, and the reduction is pronounced at certain range of superficial liquid and gas velocities. Liquid holdup for air–water flows was less than that for air–water with DRP.
