Abstract
Addition of Me 2S to a 1:2 CuI/BuLi mixture in toluene promotes 1,4- over 1,2-addition in reactions with a representative selection of α,β-unsaturated ketones. Unlike similar reactions studied with dialkyl ethers, the effect of Me 2S is not related to the amount of lithium salts in the reaction medium. The results are related to current mechanistic theories of organocuprate reactions.
