Abstract
Parameters of the flux decline relationships of ultrafiltration with total rejection in an unstirred batch cell of infinite extent are expressed as functions of operating conditions (initial concentration c o, applied pressure difference P, membrane permeability coefficient L p) and as functions of the dependences of osmotic pressure Π and diffusivity D on concentration. Within 50%, the parameters a and b of the flux ( u) versus time ( t) equation ( u −2= b 22 at) are given by a= c o/ ( c l D l) and 1/ b = L p P where c l and D l are the concentration and diffusivity at the membrane, corresponding to Π( C l) = P, D( c l) = D l.
