Abstract
The surface pretilt angle in the surface-stabilized state and the dielectric biaxiallity of two kinds of ferroelectric liquid crystalline mixtures are evaluated based on the molecular orientational model. Using these values, the switching characteristics are calculated based on the elastic continuum theory of SmC* liquid crystals. These results are compared with the experimental ones, and the effects of the dielectric biaxiallity and the surface pretilt angle on τ—V characteristics are discussed.
