Abstract

The optimal location and size of DGs in distribution system are essential effected by the type of DG, constraints and loading conditions. The types of DG characterized on the basis of their terminal characteristics in terms of active and reactive power delivery capability have been considered in this chapter; therefore, T2 type of DG is used for analysis point of view. This chapter presents the effects of DG operating at different power factors on its location and size by using GA in distribution power systems from different power system performances such as minimization of real and reactive power losses, improvement of voltage profile, real and reactive power supply from DG in system point of view. This chapter also presents the comparison of simulation results of DG operating at different power factors such as 0.82, 0.86, 0.92, 0.96, and 0.98 leading, respectively, with different load models such as constant power, industrial, residential, commercial, and reference, respectively. This is very much useful for scientific persons, practitioners, and researchers in the field of DG planning in distribution power system networks. The methodology has been tested on IEEE 38-bus test system), using MATLAB software package.
