Abstract

Silane treatment has been applied as a chromium free multi-metal surface treatment for its characteristics of corrosion protection, adhesion promotion and metal surface passivation. Vinyltriethoxysilane(VTES) hydrolysis solutions with the concentration of 4% and 10% were prepared, respectively. Morphologies and microstructures of the VTES films both before and after the corrosion test were observed with a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and effect of cure temperature on the corrosion resistance of silane film was studied combined with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results showed that the cure temperature affects condensation states of silanol groups –Si–OH in silane films and promotes the forming of –Si–O–Si– network structure, and as a consequence influences the corrosion resistance of VTES films.
