Abstract

Tourism industry is one of the most affected industries by the COVID-19 pandemic. The virus of COVID-19 negatively impacted all components of tourism. From March to April 2020, the COVID-19 cases peaked in many countries, governments thus took some measures on domestic and international travel restrictions, bringing tourism activities to a halt. Therefore, a great decrease occurred in the global tourism demand. The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) estimates that the international tourist arrivals in 2020 will decrease by approximately 58% - 78% compared to the previous year. The most important reason for this decrease in global tourism demand was the domestic and international travel restrictions. In addition, some factors such as anxiety and lockdown measures related to COVID-19 contributed a further decrease in the global tourism demand. In this context, the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on current and future tourism demand will be evaluated in this part of the book.
