Abstract

This study empirically examines the effects that a Confucius Institute has on the foreign students of its Chinese Partner University (CPU) at the province level in China. The CPUs are found to have a significantly positive impact on non-degree foreign students. With regard to degree-seeking students, CPUs have a significantly positive effect only within provinces in Central and Western China. No effect is observed in Eastern provinces.
