Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of comprehensive geriatric assessment in predicting the fall risk among the aged. Methods From January 2016 to June 2017, the comprehensive geriatric assessment handbook was used to evaluate a total of 139 patients in department of geriatrics at Beijing Hospital. The self-designed handbook was used to comprehensively assess the physical condition, functional status, mental health and social environment among the aged. We explored the correlation between evaluation results and incidence of fall in the aged. Results Among 139 elderly patients, 21 of them fell within the past year with 15.1% for the incidence. Single factor analysis showed that there were statistical differences in the incidences of fall among patients with different results in timed up and go test, walking speed test and frailty grades (P<0.05) . Logistic regression analysis showed that the score of activities of daily living (ADLs) and timed up and go test were the independent influencing factors of fall among the aged. Conclusions Comprehensive geriatric assessment carries out comprehensive assessment from multi-angle and multi-dimension which effectively assess the fall risk in the aged comprehensively.
