Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of competition state anxiety on performance by types of taekwondo games. A total of 573 sparring, poomsae, and demonstration athletes (M=426, F=147) participated in this research. Two questionnaires of Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 and Fiedler & Billo(1973) for performance were used. Frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, MANOVA, person relationship analysis, and multiple regression analysis conducted using SPSS 21.0. In results, First, demographic features(sex, age, career, performance result) by types of taekwondo games, cognitive state anxiety, physical state anxiety, and state confidence showed significant differences. Second, the sparring athletes’ physical state anxiety and state confidence showed significant effects on their performance. Third, poomsae athletes’ physical state anxiety and state confidence showed statistically significant effects on their performance. Fourth, demonstration athletes’ state confidence statistically had significant effects on their performance. In conclusions, well managed competition anxiety may help to improve competition performance of sparring, poomsae, and demonstration taekwondo athletes.
