Effects of collective hadronic behaviour on cosmic rays at very high energies

Abstract

Collective hadronic behaviour, like string fusion or percolation of strings, in spite of producing a rise of the inelasticity of the collision give rise to an increasing of the average shower depth of maximun in the atmosphere cascade. The consequences of this fact for cosmic rays in the energy range 10 16 to 10 19 ev are discussed.
