Abstract

Investigations were conducted to determine the effects of environmental factors including the presence of insecticide on distribution of Blattella germanica (L.) in Ebeling choice boxes. Adult male Orlando normal B. germanica were used in all tests. A 23 and a 24 factorial experiment with partial confounding were used to investigate the effects of chlorpyrifos, food, water, and light on insect distribution in choice boxes. Numbers of insects in each chamber of the choice box were recorded at regular intervals for 24 or 120 h. The presence or absence of food and water had no influence on the distribution of B. germanica . Avoidance of light generally occurred; however, there was some indication of habituation to light conditions. The presence of chlorpyrifos strongly influenced distribution and was repellent under all conditions tested.
