Abstract

The effects of neopyrithiamine, oxythiamine, and oxythiamine diphosphate on the decarboxylation of α-ketobutyrate by α-carboxylase have been studied. Oxythiamine diphosphate, but not oxythiamine or neopyrithiamine, inhibited the decarboxylation. The inhibition was dependent upon the order of addition of cocarboxylase and analog to the reaction mixture.
