Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of CAUTI prevention protocol on reducing CAUTI rates in intensive care patients. The research design is quasi-experimental and descriptive. The setting is the Med/Surg Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the rural, western Kansas hospital of HaysMed. The participants in the study are patients with indwelling urinary catheters in the Med/Surg Intensive Care Unit in HaysMed. The method of research is that 50 patients will receive CAUTI prevention protocol-based care for indwelling urinary catheters, and 50 will receive standardized catheter care. This research proposal is currently pending results and data collection.
