Abstract
Myosin is an essential structural and functional protein of the sarcomere. In rat ventricular myocardium two isoforms of myosin heavy chain (MyHC) are expressed, α-MyHC and β-MyHC. The two MyHC isoforms show different cross bridge kinetics. Strikingly, in the ventricular rat myocardium, cardiomyocytes with different MyHC composition are connected and contract without producing functional disbalances.
