Abstract
This study examined the effects of carbon and nitrogen sources as well as the ratio of carbon to nitrogen on apothecia formation of five anamorphic strains from the genusOrbilia. The ability of apothecia formation in chemically-defined media varies depending on the species and strains and is distinctly affected by carbon and nitrogen sources. Among the 11 nitrogen sources examined, two (L-proline and L-tyrosine) showed superior stimulating effects for sexual reproduction. Similarly, of the 10 carbon sources examined, and two (D-mannose and D-cellobiose) were highly effective. In contrast, we found little effect of variable carbon-nitrogen ratio on apothecia formation.
