Abstract

ABSTRACT A comparison was done of incarcerated recidivists and non-recidivists enrolled in a cognitive behavioral therapy program. Inmatcs were classified for analysis according to offense rate, offense type, and treatment. Psychometric tests evaluating aggression, self-esteem, locus of control, criminal thinking style and personality were administered to inmates enrolled in the program. In comparison to non-recidivists, recidivists were elevated on indirect hostility and treatment predicted a decrease in self-depreciation. Significant personality differences also emerged for the offender population in comparison to sex offenders.
