Abstract

Burning characteristics of petroleum high boiling range fractions were investigated in this paper. Fuel droplet suspended from fine silica filament of 100μ diameter was introduced into the furnace maintained at various temperatures between 700 and 800°C.Ignition delay and burning time were measured by recording the signal from photomultiplier to electromagnetic oscillograph. From these results, the following conclusions were obtained.1) The ignition delay increased with an increasing aromatics content and a mean boiling point, and with the decreasing furnace temperature. The effect of aromatics content on the ignition delay decreased with the increasing furnace temperature.2) Burning time increased with an increasing mean boiling point and an effect of chemical composition was not recongnized.
