Abstract
BiFe0.5Ta0.5O3 (BFT) doped K0.5Na0.5NbO3 (KNN) lead-free piezoelectric ceramics were prepared by normal sintering. The effect of BFT addition on KNN ceramics was investigated through X-ray diffraction (XRD), dielectric, ferroelectric and electric field-induced strain characterizations. XRD revealed that BFT addition had no remarkable effect on the crystal structure of KNN ceramics in the studied composition range. Both orthorhombic to tetragonal and tetragonal to cubic phase transition temperatures decreased with increasing BFT. Real and imaginary parts of complex impedance of the materials were investigated. The semicircles shifted to small with temperature increasing showing a typical negative temperature coefficient of resistance (NTCR) character of samples. The unipolar field-induced strain was enhanced from 0.097% for pure KNN to 0.135% for 0.50mol% of BFT, corresponding to a d33* (Smax/Emax) of 235pm/V. It is expected that this piezoceramic is promising candidate for lead-free piezoceramics and could be used in practical applications.
