Abstract

Aim: This present study was planned to investigate the effects of aromatherapy on anxiety and vital signs of the elderly living in nursing homes. Methods: This present study was conducted at a nursing home in the west of Turkey between June 1, 2015 and September 1, 2015. In the study which included a single group, the pre-test and posttest experimental model was used (n=50). The data were collected with the Elderly Identification Form (EIF), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Vital Signs Follow-up Form (VSFF). The study was conducted in accordance with the ethical principles. Results: Of the participating elderly, 68% were women, 88% were widows / widowers / singles and 70% were primary school graduates. After the aromatherapy, decreases were observed in the heart rates, respiratory rates and mean of the total BAI scores of the participants, and the statistical analysis revealed that the decreases were statistically significant (p = 0.000
