Abstract

This paper presents a study of the effect of applied heat on low molecular weight (LMW) silicone fluid in room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) coatings. The production of silicone fluid and the content of silicone fluid in RTV coatings were investigated. The coatings were subjected to two independent heat stresses. The amount of silicone fluid in RTV coatings before and after being subjected to heat was determined by using an extraction technique in hexane. Mechanisms for the observed phenomena are suggested and discussed.
