Abstract

AlFeCoCr amorphous coatings were prepared on S355 structural steel using a laser cladding (LC). The morphologies and phases of obtained coatings were analyzed using a scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and x-ray diffractometer (XRD), respectively, the effects of Al addition on the corrosive wear in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution were investigated using a wear tester, the distributions of chemical elements on the worn tracks were analyzed using an energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and the electrochemical corrosion performances were investigated using an electrochemical workstation. The results show that the average coefficient of frictions (COFs) of AlFeCoCr coatings with the Al mass fractions of 40, 50 and 60% are 0.698, 0.630, and 0.472, respectively, and the corresponding wear rates are 3.71, 2.33, and 13.12 μm3 · N–1 · m–1, respectively, the wear mechanism of AlFeCoCr coatings is abrasive wear. The polarization curves of AlFeCoCr coatings shift positively than the substrate, enhancing the corrosion resistances of substrate, among them, the corrosion resistance of AlFeCoCr coating with the Al mass fraction of 50% is the highest.
