Abstract
Objective To improve the time and quality of sleep in patients receiving surgery of retinal detachment and using the face-down position. Methods Totally 76 patients who received surgery of retinal detachment from January to December 2014 in Jiangsu Province Hospital of TCM were equally divided into a control group (n=38) and an intervention group (n=38) according to the random number table. Patients in the control group received conventional nursing, while patients in the intervention group received acupressure on the basis of conventional nursing. Their quality of sleep was evaluated with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) . Results The control group dropped two cases and the intervention group dropped one case. The patients in the intervention group and the control group scored, respectively, (0.87±0.33) and (1.37±0.72) in time of sleep latency; (1.07±0.43) and (1.43±0.58) in time of sleep; (1.13±0.21) and (1.81±0.77) in quality of sleep; and (0.89±0.12) and (1.39±0.48) in sleep efficiency. There were statistically significant differences between the two groups (t=3.892, 3.074, 5.252, 6.230; P<0.01) . Conclusions Acupressure can effectively improve the time and quality of sleep in patients receiving surgery of retinal detachment and using the face-down position.
