Abstract

A series of VSM measurements of hysteretic magnetisation on a progressively subdivided Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oy single crystal reveals that the “arrowhead” anomaly is highly dependent on the geometrical length scale of the crystal. This is consistent with a length scale of ∼0.1 mm for efficient pinning of the decomposed 2d pancake vortex glass but could also be related to the magnetic diffusion length on the time-scale of the experiment.
