Abstract

Objectives To investigate the effect of modular flexible ureteroscope on kidney stone less than 2 cm. Methods 62 cases of kidney stone treated by modular flexible ureteroscope were analyzed in Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University from Jan 2013 to Dec 2015. 56 cases applied with electronic flexible ureterscope were collected as the control group. The general clinical data, the result, the operation time, the length of hospital stay, the cost and the complication were compared between two groups. Results There were no significant differences between the control group and the treatment group. The success rate of operation (92.8 vs 93.0)%, residual stone rate (3.8 vs 4.8). and hospitalization days(4.2±1.6)d vs (4.1±3.5)d . The preoperative indwelling double J stent ratio (85.7vs 93.5)%, the average operation time of two groups (79±34.5 vs 68±45.2)min. For the first 20 cases, the operation time on modular group was higher than the control group, but there was no obvious difference in post 36 cases. The modular flexible ureteroscope group had less cost than the control group (21577±3879 vs 26897±21577) yuan. The maintenance times for application of 56 cases in modular group were significantly less than on electronic flexible ureteroscope group. The postoperative complications in the two groups had no significant difference. Conclusions Modular flexible ureteroscope is equivalent to the electronic flexible ureterscope in treating kidney stones less than 2cm. Key words: Kidney Calculi; Ureteroscopes
