Abstract

The manufacture of round wire by methods in which drawing is combined with a rolling process—such as passage through two-roller and multiroller grooves, hybrid rolling in driven and nondriven cells, and supported rolling—is considered. Finite-element modeling on the basis of DEFORM-3D software permits comparison of the risk of metal failure in these processes. All of the proposed methods are more effective than traditional drawing. Theoretically, when hybrid rolling in driven and nondriven cells is combined with drawing, the total reduction of the wire between heat-treatment operations is twice that in traditional drawing.
