Abstract

Oral cancer includes cancers of the lip, other parts of the mouth and the oropharynx and combined rank as the 13th most common cancer worldwide. In India, it is the third most common cancer overall but the most common cancer among males, and also ranks third among the various cancer types contributing to mortality in the country. While oral health literacy is defined as the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain process and understand basic oral health information and service needed to make appropriate health decision. It has been suggested that lower patient health literacy is a barrier to effective medical diagnosis and treatment. The present pre experimental one group pre-test and post-test design research study was conducted among nursing students to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme regarding oral cancer. The researcher selected 60 samples based on purposive sampling technique. The results shown that the level of knowledge was improved after ST, which indicates the STP was effective. The resercher concluded that, the teaching aids will be helpful in improving knowledge among students as well as public. The resercher recommended that, the community education programe and personal behaviour change education is required for cancer free nation.
