Abstract

This paper reports the results of an experimental test performed on a prestressed reinforced concrete bridge girder, extracted from an existing bridge of the Italian highway network. The element exhibited cracks damage along the curved tendons of the prestressing system, probably due to the rainwater infiltration into the protecting duct. The experiment consists of a three-point bending test, where a point vertical load is located at mid-span and cyclically increased until bending collapse occurs. Before the test, the cracks pattern has been repaired by high-pressure injection of high-resistance mortar. The test results demonstrate the effectiveness of the mortar injection repair intervention.
