Abstract
Acute DVT is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the hospitalized patient, particularly in the surgical patient. The triad of venous stasis, endothelial injury, and hypercoagulable state, rst posited by Virchow in 1856, has held true more than a century and a half later. This was a hospital-based prospective study conducted at KIMS, Amalapuram between September 2020 and June 2022.The Kagoshima-DVT score was used to diagnose DVT by assigning 2 points for D-dimer ≥1.5 g/ml,1 point each for female sex, age ≥60 years, prolonged immobility, ongoing glucocorticoid therapy, and cancer with high risk of DVT. They were categorised into three groups as low risk (score 0-2), intermediate risk (3-4) and high risk (≥5) Whole leg ultrasonography was performed on them.
