Abstract
Publish the theory of short/slender reinforced concrete (RC) columns under combined flexure and axial compression was one of the objectives of this research, given the complexity of refining the method and the little specific information in the national technical/scientific literature. In the same way, evaluating the credibility of ABNT NBR 6118 [1] regarding the strength estimation of this type of column was also a purpose of the investigation. Consequently, both the simplified and the refined design methods from ABNT NBR 6118 [1] were presented, clarified and matured about the accuracy and safety of their estimates.
