Abstract

AbstractThe current study made an approach to use cellular reinforcement made up from Waste Plastic Bottle Geocell (WPBG) for the improvement of pavement. In this study, unreinforced and cellular reinforced pavement was analyzed by numerical modelling in PLAXIS 2D and 3D. The optimum height and diameter of waste plastic bottle geocell (WPBG) is determined by simulating Triaxial test in PLAXIS 2D. Also, the comparison was done between WPBG, Geogrid, and Conventional geocell under static cyclic loading of 100 cycles in PLAXIS 3D. Against static cyclic loading, deformation, horizontal tensile strain in bottom of bituminous layer, and vertical compressive strain at the top of subgrade are recorded. Effectiveness of WPBG is also checked in terms of rutting reduction ratio and traffic benefit ratio. Result indicated that pavement reinforced with WPBG shows lesser deformation than the unreinforced pavement and it is also effective than geogrids. This study gives an effective result and proves to be a boon for road construction as it improves the subgrade and also for environmental conservation as it provides effective utilization of waste plastic bottles in form of geocell.KeywordsWaste plastic bottleGeocellPavementFEMEtc
