Abstract

The article analyzes communicative situations as units of communicative competence. Distinctive characteristics of speech situations are presented. Approaches to business discourse in the scientific literature are analyzed. The features of business discourse from the point of view of discursive analysis are determined. The description of speech situations of English-speaking business discourse is given. Linguistic means that are effective in creating cognitive images that contribute to the communicative purpose of speech situations, namely: professional terminology, professional jargon, professional slang, the use of clichés, metaphors in different types of texts are identified.
