Abstract

An unimpeded flow of communication is necessary for any complex undertaking. Effective therapy may be blocked by communication problems within the speech and hearing center even though the staff training, staff-client relationships, and therapy methods are competent. This has nothing to do with clerical routine, moreover, since files do not in themselves communicate. The purposes of communication must be arranged so as to meet unique needs of each setting. The roles of therapy, training, and research in the college center are not always complementary and can pose problems in effective communication. Accurate insights into how a particular setting functions are necessary prerequisites to communication. Distortions, from whatever source, affect the way staff and clients behave and thus mitigate therapy.
