Abstract

The numbers of nurses working in independent contract positions are increasing. This article describes the development of a preemployment screening tool and an efficient, cost-effective orientation for independent contract nurses who may work infrequently or for short duration. The success of the orientation is attributed to a high degree of learner involvement, decreased orientation time, and focusing on essential "need to know" information.
