Abstract
The effective potential (= Legendre transform of the generating functional) of a double-well potential is calculated via the recently proposed method to effective classical potentials (=potential W( x 0) whose Boltzman factor exp [− βW( x 0)] gives th distribution of path averages x 0 = [∝ 0 β dτ x( τ)]/ β). The result is automatically convex and, down to very low temperatures, in excellent agreement with what is obtained by solving numerically the Schrödunger equation.
