Abstract

We discuss the slowly running coupling constant hypothesis in technicolor, as proposed in order to avoid the flavor changing neutral current problem. We find that these theories are very sensitive to the location of the critical point for chirality breaking. We use the effective potential approach for composite operators to determine the phase structure and the fermion condensates for various groups and representations, and we find, within usual approximations, that only a few cases remain acceptable.
