Abstract

Health care has become important agenda for both public and private sector organizations throughout the world. Many models were developed to assess the effectiveness of the service delivery by health care organizations. As a result, researchers and health care experts have published numerous articles in search for an excellent health care performance model. The purpose of this paper is to introduce and compare about 32 models of performance evaluation and excellence that were published, highlighting the focusing factors and gaps between them; thus, exploring the strengths and weaknesses of each model. In addition, it aims to suggest strategies in designing new accreditation models based on international standards. There are a variety of control mechanisms in organizations; thus, by analyzing and comparing these models and different methods, we will extract some information that may be useful in designing new frameworks and models. Performance evaluation system is specific need of managers in all organizations. Performance evaluation system and excellence models mentioned in this paper are used worldwide in the organizations with a specific economic, political, social, cultural and knowledge status.
