Abstract

Spherically averaged effective masses for donor states of different symmetry in Si and Ge are obtained following the methods of Tefft (1969) and Lee and co-workers (1982). The presence of equivalent conduction band minima in these semiconductors is taken into account following a many-valley formalism developed by Twose. The results, failing to satisfy symmetry requirements, indicate the inadequacy of the Twose equation.
