Abstract

AbstractUsing the Lee‐Low‐Pines variational method the effective mass of a polaron in a rectangular quantum wire subject to a strong uniform external magnetic field along the wire length is studied. Taking the GaAs quantum wire as an example numerical results are given. The results show that the effective mass of the polaron is dominated mainly by the smaller dimension of the quantum wire cross section and the external magnetic field has an interesting influence on it.
