Abstract

The transverse counterparts of the effective-field theories for the longitudinal mode are constructed on the basis of the kinetic theory of simple liquids. The connection between the effective-field representation and generalised hydrodynamics is shown. By means of a Gaussian ansatz for the frequency-dependent collision damping function, calculations have been performed for liquid Ar and Rb. The relaxation time in the ansatz is determined by the use of sum rules up to the fourth moment.
