Abstract

The close-coupling equations in the 1s-2s-2p approximation for both e--H and e--He+ scattering have been solved employing equivalent local exchange potentials in place of the exchange kernels. A detailed numerical comparison with solutions of the equations with the usual non-local potentials, shows that, at intermediate energies, exchange potentials based on the Furness-McCarthy semiclassical model (1973) provide a useful approximation, although the accuracy achieved is less than in single channel systems.
