Abstract
The temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τf) of a stripline (SL) ring resonator in a multilayer low temperature cofireable ceramic (LTCC) package can be adjusted towards zero by integrating a cofirable compensating dielectric with an opposite τf to that of the host dielectric. Studies on resonator panels with a compensating dielectric revealed that the most effective τf compensation is achieved when the compensating dielectric is integrated next to the SL conductor rings. Method of Momentum (MoM) electromagnetic simulations are consistent with the experimental observations. The results are further explained by the calculated effective dielectric constant of a heterogeneous layered dielectric structure using the transverse transmission line method combined with the variational technique.
