Abstract

1. The concept of the effective coordination charge was discussed. It was shown that in a series of inorganic crystals, the metal atoms may possess a negative effective charge. 2. A thermodynamic analysis was made of reactions of oxidation, and the energetic profitability of increasing the valence of the metal in the case when it possesses a negative effective coordination charge was substantiated. 3. The presence of correlation between the sign and magnitude of the effective charge and temperatures of oxidation reactions was demonstrated experimentally.
