Abstract
For a non-abelian gauge field coupled to external source trajectories, one may introduce a pair of intermediary abelian fields. By integrating over the non-abelian variables one obtains a nonlinear lagrangian for the abelian fields which are related by a dielectric coefficient. The string model corresponds to a limitig case of such an abelian system.
