Abstract
SummaryImmature American alligators were maintained at temperatures of 16°-17°C or 31°-32°C for periods of 6 to 7 months. Red cell life spans were measured with P32 or tritium labelled diisopropylfluorophosphate. Calculated red cell life spans corrected for changes in total red cell volume were prolonged by a factor of at least 3 at the lower temperature. Erythropoiesis was markedly depressed at low environmental temperature.
