Abstract

A high voltage pulse power supply developed, generates ~ 20 kV pulse with fast rise time of ns at high repetition rate of 6.25 kHz to drive copper vapor laser. The application of these lasers demands tight control on timing drift and jitter to generate good beam quality and high output power. A study is conducted on timing drift of laser current pulse and steady state warm up time with temperature variations caused by power loss of the components dipped in oil filled pulse generating unit. The paper presents the rate at which oil temperature and timing drift varies with time. It also discusses the modification carried out on cooling line to reduce the steady state operating temperature of components from 52 °C to 43 °C at an operating input power of 7 kW, hence improving the reliability of power supply.
