Abstract

ABSTRACTPure tetragonal zirconia nanopowder was prepared via lamellar liquid crystal method combined with a thermal sulfated zirconyl chloride hydrosol. The lamellar liquid crystal region in the sodium dodecyl sulfate/1-decanol/water ternary phase diagram was observed by polarizing optical micrographic images. The impact of the molar ratio on the phase and morphology of zirconia was investigated. Results showed that the molar ratio Rs affected the phase structure and morphological characteristic of zirconia particles. Moreover, the morphology was transformed from almost peanut particles to spherical ones, whereas tetragonal phases changed into monoclinic phase with the increase in Rs.
